At Home with Uma Rattan
We blend Indonesian craftsmanship with considered design to create homeware that celebrates natural material for everyday living

OUR STORY
Authentic Indonesian Tradition
Uma Rattan is the creation of Sophie O’Hare, an Indonesian-American design & interiors specialist deeply connected to her roots. Growing up with her grandmother Ingrid in Bali, Sophie developed a profound appreciation for Indonesian artistry and craftsmanship. Her academic and professional background in furniture, interiors and sustainable design laid the foundation for Uma Rattan. With her mother Natasha, Sophie started Uma Rattan as a vehicle that combines Indonesian rattan tradition, with considered contemporary design. Today, Uma Rattan provides customers with an exclusively Indonesian rattan homeware experience based in London, U.K. and Bali, Indonesia.

FROM THE SOURCE
Rattan Forest Fresh
We create all of our rattan pieces with Balinese artisans, connecting you directly to the natural rattan sources of Indonesia. Rattan, being part of the palm species, is one of the fastest growing trees in the world, making harvesting it a naturally sustainable process. To read more about the material visit our World of Rattan page.
TENGANAN, BALI
Where our rattan is harvested & traditionally weaved. Tenganen, a very jungley and lush region located in Southeast Bali, includes villages that are famously dedicated to preserving local arts such as ikat textiles, gamelan music and rattan weaving.
SEMINYAK, BALI
Where our rattan artisans finish and send our pieces. We personally came across Matra’i, a third generation rattan making company while living in Bali. We work with Ima & Vivan who ensure all of our pieces are naturally finished and ready to go.
BATTERSEA, LONDON
Where we design, dispatch and run our sustainable business. Our founder has called London home for the past 8 years. Every year includes travels back to Bali where our collection is expanding and our knowledge of Indonesian rattan continues to grow.
